ABOUT BEST CLINIC
Before becoming the BEST Clinic, it functioned as a satellite treatment center for the DRSTMH Social Hygiene Clinic in Kalibo. In 2020, Dr. Lailani Barrios worked with Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital (CSTH) to treat patients who were unable to travel from Boracay to Kalibo due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As demand increased and clients expressed satisfaction, the hospital began planning to open its own treatment facility in Boracay. They successfully organized their treatment hub with the help of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Aklan provincial government, and the Department of Health, resulting in the establishment of the Best Clinic. The BEST Clinic was officially opened and inaugurated in December 2023, coinciding with World AIDS Day.
Clients can receive HIV testing and other laboratory exams, plus antiretroviral treatment for confirmed cases, as well as counseling and psychosocial support at the hub. They are committed to upholding their clients' trust by providing the best possible care. Despite their small size, they aspire to have a significant impact and help make the world a better place. This is the BEST Clinic's core mission.
Dr. Karol Mark M. Lachica
Chief of CSTH
Dr. Karl is currently the head of Ciriaco S Tirol Hospital. He has been a general practitioner for 14 years, working with the government. His goal is to help control the transmission of HIV on Boracay Island and provide comprehensive services to his HIV patients. He aspires for the hub to become a center that breaks down barriers of discrimination and stigma associated with HIV, fostering social acceptance and awareness of HIV.
